Jutrzenka, Warszawa

Jutrzenka is the name of this stop, and its recorded beginning falls in nineteen nineteen. Its own story is spare here, yet the name sits within Warsaw, Poland’s capital. The city stretches along the Vistula in the country’s heartland, where Mazovia meets the broad lowland landscape.

Warsaw gained urban rights before the close of the thirteenth century. Much later, royal government shifted here from Kraków, making Warsaw the working seat of power for the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. War brought devastating damage, including bombardment, the ghetto uprising, and the Warsaw Uprising; German forces then deliberately burned and demolished the city after the fighting.

The rebuilt Old Town later joined the UNESCO World Heritage List. Today Warsaw remains Poland’s largest city by population and the capital of Mazovia as well as the nation.
