Here is Główna Biblioteka Lekarska, a specialist research library created in Warsaw in nineteen forty-five through the initiative of Stanisław Konopka. It forms part of the state’s cultural institutions and falls under the Ministry of Health. Its collecting mission reaches across Polish medical publishing and allied subjects, while also bringing together important medical works from abroad.

Konopka was not merely the instigator: he established the library and served as its director from nineteen forty-five until nineteen seventy. The institution’s historical medical-book department is based at Jazdów one A, where material on the history of medical science is collected, preserved, catalogued, and made available. Publishing is also part of the library’s work.

Its Bulletin returned in twenty sixteen and appears twice each year, carrying scholarship in medicine, related fields, librarianship, and history. A separate history journal began in twenty twenty-five, devoted to the past of medicine. This is a place shaped by an unusually broad promise: to make medical knowledge endure, from contemporary research to the long memory of healing.
