Fondazione Prada, Milan
Fondazione Prada is a contemporary art and culture institution housed in a striking complex at Largo Isarco. Its Milan venue opened on 9 May 2015, after OMA, led by Rem Koolhaas, transformed an early twentieth-century distillery into exhibition spaces alongside new buildings. The site combines existing industrial structures with Podium, Cinema and Torre, giving you a place where art, architecture and film share the same setting.
Look for the four-storey Haunted House, wrapped in 24-carat gold foil and used for permanent displays from the Fondazione’s collection. The complex covers 19,000 square metres, with 11,000 square metres devoted to exhibitions. Inside, Bar Luce recreates the atmosphere of old Milan cafés through a design by filmmaker Wes Anderson, while the children’s area was developed with architecture students from Versailles.
The institution began in 1993 and has been co-chaired by Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli since 1995. Before this permanent venue opened, it had already presented 24 solo exhibitions in Milan between 1993 and 2010, working in dialogue with internationally recognised contemporary artists.
