DenkStätte Weiße Rose, Munich
DenkStätte Weiße Rose is an exhibition room and a memorial site for the Munich resistance group Weiße Rose, housed in the main building of Ludwig Maximilian University. The Weiße Rose Foundation created it together with the university, and the atrium became its setting. Federal President Roman Herzog opened the site on 28 June 1997.
Its permanent exhibition, “The Weiße Rose – Resistance against the Nazi Dictatorship,” began in 2017. It places the group’s actions within Nazi terror and the war, while giving particular attention to their leaflets and intellectual influences. Interactive media stations introduce the biographies of the resistance members and trace how opposition reached beyond Munich.
Another section follows how the Weiße Rose has been remembered from 1943 to the present. The exhibition texts are available in German and English.
