This memorial on Jana Matejki Street is the Cichociemnych Spadochroniarzy AK monument, designed by Marek Moderau. It honours three hundred and sixteen parachutist soldiers of the Home Army, remembered here for giving their lives and personal destinies to Poland. The idea for this memorial came from Brigadier General Stefan Bałuk, whose nom de guerre was Starba. The Warsaw Rising Museum, the GROM military unit bearing the parachutists’ name, and the council responsible for protecting sites of struggle and martyrdom helped bring it into being. The monument was unveiled on the seventh of October two thousand thirteen, with Bałuk and President Bronisław Komorowski among those present.

This is a memorial for a group rather than a single celebrated individual. That choice matters: each visitor encounters a collective act of service, compressed into a few solemn words and a durable public marker in the capital.
