Centrum Nauki Kopernik, Warszawa

Centrum Nauki Kopernik is a Warsaw Metro station in Śródmieście. It serves Line M2 across the central part of the network. Passenger trains began calling here on the eighth of March twenty fifteen, when the line’s original section opened between Rondo Daszyńskiego and Dworzec Wileński.

Andrzej M. Chołdzyński created the station design, and Metroprojekt carried out its construction. The murals are by Wojciech Fangor, a leading figure of Poland’s poster-art tradition.

The station takes its name from the Copernicus Science Centre close by. This stretch of the city lies beside the Vistula, with the riverside boulevards and Świętokrzyski Bridge nearby. The platforms sit beneath the Wisłostrada tunnel, close to the meeting of Tamka and Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie streets.

Nearby, Elektrownia Powiśle gives an industrial building a new role as a shopping destination. That mixture of underground transport, riverfront space, science, and reused industry makes this a particularly vivid fragment of Warsaw.
