These premises at Rakowiecka 2a are the Warsaw headquarters of Agencja Bezpieczeństwa Wewnętrznego, known as ABW. The agency safeguards Poland’s internal security and constitutional order. It came into being on the twenty-ninth of June two thousand two, when the former State Protection Office was dissolved and its place was taken by ABW and the Intelligence Agency.

Its remit includes countering espionage, terrorism, threats in cyberspace, corruption involving public office, and crimes that damage the state’s economic foundations. ABW also collects, assesses, and passes significant security information to the appropriate authorities. Its work is subject to oversight from the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, alongside state watchdogs and legal-protection bodies. This address represents the domestic-facing side of Poland’s intelligence system: an institution concerned with risks inside the country, while a separate agency handles foreign intelligence.
