Skwer Batalionu AK "Zaremba-Piorun", Warsaw
At the junction of Poznańska and Wspólna, this garden square contains the Zaremba–Piorun Battalion Monument, a memorial for fighters from a Polish resistance unit active in the Warsaw Uprising. The battalion came together during the uprising from scattered soldiers, air-base detachments, volunteers, and men who missed their allotted assembly points. Julian Pilichowski, himself a battalion member, created this memorial, which was unveiled on the fifteenth of August nineteen ninety.
Notice the rectangular stone block. Its face bears the battalion badge: a lightning bolt whose upper end is shaped like feathers, with a commemorative plaque beneath. The severe, compact design makes the insignia feel like a surviving signal from a wartime unit assembled under immense pressure.
