Warszawa Śródmieście WKD is the downtown terminus of the Warsaw Commuter Railway near Warszawa Centralna. Its protected reinforced-concrete canopy and unusual platform operation make it distinctive. An underground passage links the station with Centralna and nearby tram stops, while the station has also served as a filming location.

That slim concrete canopy marks Warszawa Śródmieście WKD, the downtown terminus of the Warsaw Commuter Railway. Opened on the eighth of December nineteen sixty-three, the station followed the transfer of the WKD from Nowogrodzka Street into the cross-city railway cutting. Its design came from the team led by Arseniusz Romanowicz.

Notice the canopy above the stair entrance: a light reinforced-concrete sheet carried on narrow columns. It entered the heritage register in twenty twenty. Below ground, the station has a single side platform with only a single boarding edge, an unusually spare arrangement for a terminus.

Incoming trains discharge passengers at the platform’s west end, continue to its east end for boarding, then use a crossover partway along the platform to depart on the other track. The underground passage also connects this station with Warszawa Centralna and the tram stops nearby. Do not confuse it with Warszawa Śródmieście PKP, the separate suburban station east of Centralna. This small transport setting has appeared in Polish culture too, as a location for music videos and scenes from a television crime series.
