Stadion Narodowy, Warszawa

Stadion Narodowy is an underground Warsaw Metro stop on the M2 line, named for the nearby Kazimierz Górski National Stadium. Designed by Andrzej M. Chołdzyński, it features murals by Wojciech Fangor and connects directly with Warszawa Stadion railway stop. Its construction uncovered wartime ammunition.

Stadion Narodowy is an underground stop on Warsaw Metro’s M2 line. Its name honours the nearby Kazimierz Górski National Stadium. Beneath Sokola Street, the station links closely with the Warszawa Stadion rail stop, so this is where metro and railway journeys meet without a long detour.

The station welcomed passengers on the eighth of March, twenty fifteen, when Warsaw opened the inaugural M2 section running from Rondo Daszyńskiego to Dworzec Wileński. Andrzej M. Chołdzyński designed the station, Metroprojekt delivered its construction work, and Wojciech Fangor created its murals.

Fangor belonged to the Polish School of Posters, bringing an artist’s visual language into a daily transport space. Its making had a wartime interruption. During excavation in twenty eleven, workers uncovered crates holding one hundred and thirty artillery shells from the Second World War; specialists removed them before building continued.

The site also yielded an anti-personnel mine. The station now serves M2 and is intended to become an interchange with M3, extending its role in the city’s transport network.
