Seven hectares of woodland make Parque da Pasteleira a substantial pocket of surviving natural vegetation within Porto. The park is split in two by Rua de Afonso de Paiva, but three wooden footbridges reunite its two sides, turning a dividing street into part of the route through the trees. As you continue along the paths at an easy pace, notice the texture and shade of the woodland around you.
Maritime pines and cork oaks form the core of this remnant forest; rhododendrons are among the other plants growing here. The park lies in Lordelo do Ouro and is bounded by the streets of Diogo Botelho, Gomes Eanes de Azurara, and Bartolomeu Velho. It also belongs to Porto’s cycling network.
Since 2009, a roughly two-kilometre cycle route has connected this park with Parque da Cidade, and another connection leads onward to the riverside cycleway between Foz and the Dom Luís I Bridge. From April through September, the park opens daily from 7 in the morning until 11 at night; from October through March, it closes at 8 in the evening.
