September 17, 2005 marks the opening of Aliados and the central underground stretch of Line D. Beneath Avenida dos Aliados, this station has two running tracks, with a platform alongside each one. You are just south of Porto City Hall, on an avenue that ranks among central Porto’s principal streets; Aliados takes its name from that avenue.
Line D places this stop between Trindade and São Bento, making it part of a direct underground link through the city. When this section first began service, trains ran from Câmara de Gaia in the south to Pólo Universitário in the north. The route now extends farther, reaching Vila d’Este at one end and Hospital de São João at the other.
If you are travelling on a weekday, a train arrives about every five or six minutes. Evenings and weekends bring a more relaxed ten-minute rhythm. Near the station, tram 22 also calls at Avenida dos Aliados. From this broad street, you have a useful choice: descend to the Metro for Line D, or stay at street level for the historic tram.
