Park Mirowski, Warsaw

Park Mirowski is a municipal park in Warsaw’s Śródmieście district. It is also known as Downtown Park, set between Marszałkowska Street, John Paul II Avenue, and the Mirowski Halls. The park was laid out during the nineteen sixties and covers about four hectares; its name recalls the Mirowski Barracks.

Let the paths draw you through this compact patch of civic memory. Piotr Drzewiecki Avenue runs through the grounds, linking the park’s everyday pace with its commemorative side. Notice the memorials beside the paths: the park contains monuments to Feliks Stamm, Piotr Drzewiecki, and Warsaw’s Mermaid.

An earlier monument here had a different fate: the monument to Julian Marchlewski was unveiled in July nineteen sixty-eight and dismantled in nineteen ninety. That sequence gives this park an unusual character. It is not merely a break between busy streets, but a place where Warsaw has repeatedly chosen whom to remember in public space. Park Mirowski is listed as municipal immovable heritage.
