Most Romana Dmowskiego, Wrocław

Most Romana Dmowskiego is Wrocław’s first newly built postwar river crossing, completed in 1994. Three parallel bridges combine road traffic with a central tram route across the Southern Oder, linking Kępa Mieszczańska with the city’s western side. Trams began regular service here in May 2023.

Most Romana Dmowskiego is the river crossing carrying you between Kępa Mieszczańska and Wrocław’s western districts across the Southern Oder. It is a distinctly modern piece of the city: Wrocław’s first bridge crossing built entirely anew after the Second World War. The northern road bridge opened on the fourth of June 1992, and the whole crossing entered service in 1994.

The structure is arranged as a small transport corridor rather than a single bridge. Three parallel spans make up the crossing: two road bridges, each twelve metres wide, with a seven-and-a-half-metre tram bridge between them. Each bridge has two spans, reaching eighty-one and forty-five metres.

Zygmunt Burski designed the project. The bridge forms part of a two-lane route leading out from the centre toward Zielona Góra. Its central tram structure was built for lighter vehicles than those used decades later, so it needed reinforcement before the new Popowice tram route could use it.

Tests in April 2023 succeeded, and scheduled trams began running here on the fifteenth of May 2023. Its namesake is Roman Dmowski, a National Democracy politician of the interwar period.
